Actor Gerald Dwight "Wings" Hauser, 77, died this week, it was announced on March 20. The son of writer and actor Dwight Hauser, he started his career as a singer (releasing one album) before getting into acting. The big, tough-looking Hauser often played heavy roles, and from the late ’60s through the 2010s, he was rarely out of work. He had continuing roles on The Last Precinct, China Beach, Beverly Hill 90210, Lightning Force, Roseanne, and The Young and the Restless; his most famous film role was probably as police chief Luther Regency in Tough Guys Don’t Dance. “I'm from California, not New York,” Hauser once said. “California actors are more geared to entertain. There's nothing worse than boring the audience. The New York actors I've worked with are very realistic, but reality can be boring. I like to put a little turbo power into my performance. My problem is that I've never been able to find the top to go over. There's a lot of room up there.” Hauser’s four wives included producer Cass Warner, actresses Nancy Locke, and Cali Lili (who is still in bloom). His children Cole Hauser (Yellowstone) and Bright Hauser also went into the show business.
