Actress Toian Matchinga, 82, died on Nov. 17. Matchinga appeared in films and TV from the 1960s-90s, though she never broke through to stardom. She appeared in several episodes of Death Valley Days, The Wild, Wild West, and The Law, also turning up in The Rat Patrol, The Big Valley, The Flying Nun, Up the Sandbox, The Odd Couple, Raid on Entebbe, and, most recently, 1997’s Mad City. She was sometimes billed under her birth name, Caryn Matchinga (why on earth did she change that to “Toian?”). Matchinga also worked as a script doctor at MGM, NBC and Paramount. Her family wrote that “Caryn was a gifted storyteller, often sharing outrageous and hilarious tales from her colorful life in New York and Hollywood. She had a knack for leaving everyone around her in stitches and maybe just a bit uncomfortable.”
