Mentalist George Joseph Kresge, 89, who performed as The Amazing Kreskin, died on Dec. 10, it was announced on his X account (seriously, is anyone still using X?). Inspired by Mandrake the Magician, Kreskin billed himself as an entertainer and never claimed to have any supernatural powers (and good for him, too). He performed frequently on TV—talk shows (The Tonight Show 47 times!), variety shows, specials. He told Nancy Berk of Parade, “One of the greatest lessons I learned in life is one that I try to share with masses of people, which is the impact we have on another person the first time you meet them. The initial impression we leave can have an impact, not simply at that moment, but on one’s future. We can only meet a person for the first time once in our lives.”
