Comedienne Suzanne Rand, 75, died on April 2. She and her partner (professional, not personal) John Monteith, were a popular duo in the age of Stiller and Meara, and Nichols and May. They performed in NY clubs, and on- and off-Broadway, as well as on TV variety shows. Rand once said, “Nichols and May came across more like neurotics trying to deal with the world, while I feel that we view ourselves as two people dealing with a neurotic world.” Rand began her career as a nightclub singer, and a member of the famed Second City troupe (“I had a miserable time. It’s a wonderful place if you have a background, but you can’t learn there.”). After Monteith and Rand broke up in the 1990s, she worked as a voice-over and script doctor.
