British costume designer Stephanie Collie, 60, died of cancer on Oct. 31 (her husband, director of photography Hubert Taczanowski, died in June). Collie dressed more than 60 films and TV shows, including Peter’s Friends, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Peaky Blinders, London Has Fallen, Hellboy, and The Hitman’s Bodyguard (as well as its sequel); she had one film in production at the time of her death. Mike Barnes of The Hollywood Reporter (hi, Mike!) wrote that her Peaky Blinders costumes “ushered in a revolution in contemporary British menswear. Over the years, so many people would write to her seeking advice on how to achieve the correct ‘Peaky Blinders look,’ she created masterclass cheat sheets on how to dress the part.” Collie shared this writer’s opinion that too many men today torpedo their looks by dressing like Bart Simpson: “I’ve always just loved dressing men,” she said. “They can look so good. And not even just vintage. I just think men have lost the art of dressing themselves. It’s all too casual. I just think that people don’t look in the mirror anymore and really look at themselves.”
