Mexican film, stage, and TV star Silvia Pinal, 93, died on Nov. 28. One of the biggest names in Mexico from the 1950s-70s, she starred in Luis Buñuel’s Viridiana, El Angel Exterminador, and Simón del Desierto, as well as the US film Shark! and countless other films and TV shows from her 1949 debut through a 2021 episode of Una Familia de Diez. She also starred in such TV series as ¿Quien?, Eclipse, Carita de Angel, Soy tu Dueña, and Mi Marido tiene Familia. Pinal was also active onstage, her vehicles including Bells Are Ringing, Anna Christie, The Madwoman of Chaillot, Plaza Suite, Annie Get Your Gun, and Mame. She married four times, to actor Rafael Banquells, producer Gustavo Alatriste, rock star Enrique Guzmán, and politician Tulio Hernández Gómez. Her four children have all gone into the show business, most famously actress daughters Sylvia Pasquel and Viridiana Alatriste.
