Dominican merengue singer Roberto Antonio Pérez Herrera, who performed as Rubby Pérez, died in the April 8 roof collapse of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo. He was 69. More than 100 others died in the collapse, including baseball players Tony Blanco and Octavio Dotel, and Nelsy Cruz, the governor of Monte Cristi. One of Pérez’s sax players was reported to have died as well, but damn if I can find a name (if I ever can, he or she will get an obit, too). Pérez hit the charts in the’80s with such songs as "Buscando Tus Besos," "Dame Veneno,” "Enamorado de Ella,” "Tú Vas a Volar,” and "Tonto Corazón.”
