Italian film and theater actor Roberto Herlitzka, 86, died in Rome on July 31. Herlitzka was born in Turin, but his family fled to Argentina at the start of WWII to escape Italy’s anti-Semitic laws. He eventually moved back home and studied at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts. In addition to his stellar theater career, Herlitzka appeared in some 100 films and TV shows between 1960 and 2022, most notably Good Morning, Night (for which he won a Donatello Award), Love & Anarchy, Lina Wertmüller’s Seven Beauties, The Charterhouse of Parma, The Butterfly’s Dream, Quartetto, The Demons of St. Petersburg, The Last Man on Earth, and Sweet Dreams. Herlitzka was married to actress Chiara Cajoli from 1968 till her death in June.
