Actor Randal Malone—billed as “Film Star Randal Malone”—died of kidney disease on July 29. He was 66. Born in Kentucky (and retaining the charming accent), he was as camp as a row of tents. He cohosted the MTV dating show Singled Out, and appeared in more than 50 films (most of them straight-to-video comedy/horror): Sunset After Dark, Hollywood Mortuary, Slaughterhouse Phi: Death Sisters, Axegrinder, Dahmer vs. Gacy (playing John Wayne Gacy). Randal was also one of Hollywood’s most popular “Maxes” (as in Sunset Boulevard), a loving caretaker and “walker” to such ailing stars as Anita Page (who, unfortunately, he dolled up like Baby Jane Hudson), Ginger Rogers, Ann Miller, and Mae Clarke. A friend of your faithful correspondent, Randal was boisterous and over the top; he was chatty and funny and told hilarious stories about his “Kentucky to Hollywood” life.
