Filipina singer and actress Pilita Corrales, 87, died on April 12. A superstar both in her own country and Australia (where she frequently performed), "Asia's Queen of Songs" was a star from the 1950s till her death. In addition to performing and recording (she sang in Spanish, English, Tagalog, and Cebuano, accompanying herself on the guiter or piano), Corrales hosted radio and TV shows, acted in some 60 Filipino movies and TV shows, and headlined in Las Vegas. Corrales was also smart enough to keep a second income coming in, operating a restaurant (Pilita’s) in Manila. “The passion has to be there, always. Because otherwise, you won’t be able to deliver as you should,” she said in 2017. “As long as there are people who want to listen to me, and as long as the Lord gives me good health, I will continue.”
