Scottish actress Myra McFadyen, 68, has died, her family announced on Oct. 23. While she appeared in many TV shows and movies (Mamma Mia!, Monarch of the Glen, Emma, Ruth Rendell Mysteries), most of her career was spent onstage. She played in the stage version of Mamma Mia! for two years, also acting at the Old Vic and the National Theatre. Dominic Hill of the Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre wrote, “She was a legend in Scottish theatre—a terrific actress with a gorgeous voice.” An anonymous fan posted that “I had a lovely conversation with Myra during the pre-show walkabout for A Christmas Carol a few years ago. We talked about Scotland, in particular Skye and Glasgow, where our respective roots are. She was delightful, very witty and gave far more of her time than I deserved when she should have been spreading Dickensian Christmas spirit!”
