Chinese movie and TV actress Lily Li, 74, died of cancer on Oct. 27. Signed with the Shaw Brothers Studio as a teenager, she starred in many action films, often as the ass-kicking heroine. She became a star in 1970’s The Wandering Swordsman, also playing the lead in the TV series The Bride with White Hair. She went on to appear in such films and TV series as Executioners from Shaolin, One Foot Crane, The Young Master, Blood Debt, Beyond the Realm of Conscience, and Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils. “As an actress, of course you want your work to reach the world,” Li said in 2020. “You would hope people would get to know you. I received letters from fans and it was a good reward and encouragement. It was motivating. I hoped to do a good job for the audience.” Her health failing, she added sadly that “I don’t feel so well. Don’t want to talk about it. I am getting old. I don’t want to work.”
