London-born actor Lee Montague, 97, died on March 31. Born Leonard Goldberg (I totally get it—a great-uncle changed his name from Isadore Soifer to Alex North), he trained at the Old Vic and eventually worked on stage, screen, and TV. In addition to West End and touring companies, Montague was seen on Broadway in Entertaining Mr. Sloane and The Climate of Eden. From 1952-2017, he was ubiquitous on small and large screens: Another Sky, William Tell, Interpol Calling, Foxhole in Cairo, Danger Man, Billy Budd, Secret Agent, How I Won the War, Brother Sun Sister Moon, The Sweeney, Space: 1999, Holocaust, Madame Sousatzka, The House of Elliott (remember that mini-series? They never rerun it). Montague rarely had large roles, but there is much to be said for being a working actor over six decades. His wife (since 1955), actress Ruth Goring, died in 2023.
