Broadway actor Ken Page, 70, died on Sept. 30. He starred on Broadway in Cats (as Old Deuteronomy), The Wiz, Guys and Dolls, and Ain’t Misbehavin’, as well as appearing in numerous Off-Broadway and regional shows, many with the Muny-St. Louis Theater (St. Louis was his home town). From 1984 through 2020, Page was also seen (or heard) in films and TV, notably voicing Oogie Boogie in The Nightmare Before Christmas (his other vehicles included All Dogs Go to Heaven, Torch Song Trilogy, Dreamgirls, Charmed, and Touched by an Angel). Of playing “Disney dads” in Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid, Page said, “All the Disney fathers are motivated by love for their daughters. So it’s a parental story you’re telling, like in Aida when I played her father. They are not complex characters, but there’s a certain shading you have to hit. There’s a depth in their emotional impact that you can mine.”
