Charles Jones, a Florida rapper who performed under the name Julio Foolio, was shot and killed in Jacksonville on June 22 while leaving his 26th birthday party. Foolio’s music often celebrated gun violence and the deaths of gang rivals; this was not the first time someone had targeted him. His songs included “Play with Me,” “Crooks,” Fuck That,” “Who I Smoke” and “Dead Opps.” Starting his career in 2015, he released about half a dozen albums, and had a million listeners on Spotify. “Best birthday everrrr,” Foolio posted on Instagram shortly before his death. “Appreciate everybody who pulled up . . . We otw [on the way] to the show now yall pull-up.”
