Jonathan Haze, who played Seymour in Roger Corman’s 1960 Little Shop of Horrors, died on Nov. 2. He was 95. Haze appeared in numerous early Corman films, including Apache Woman, Day the World Ended, It Conquered the World, Swamp Women, Rock All Night, The Viking Women and the Sea Serpent, and The Terror. The slight, handsome actor specialized in sad sacks and nerds, the premiere example being Seymour. Haze was working at a gas station when he was discovered by director Wyott Ordung for his film Monster from the Ocean Floor (1954); he also appeared in such non-Corman projects as Dragnet, East of Eden, 77 Sunset Strip, X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes, and his last film, Nobody Smiling (2010). Haze said of his Corman films, “All of the pictures were kind of like family pictures. Everybody in them were friends and people that you’d known and worked with before. Everybody was very comfortable working with everybody else and there wasn’t a hell of a lot of competition within that whole group of people.”
