Movie producer Jon Landau, 63, died of cancer on July 5. Landau won an Oscar for producing Titanic, and was nominated for two Avatar films. The son of two producers (Edie and Ely Landau), he was executive vice president of feature film production at Fox. Among the many films he produced were Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Dick Tracy, Die Hard 2, The Last of the Mohicans, Mrs. Doubtfire, and True Lies. Working on the huge-budgeted Titanic, he said, “was very tough . . . I was the guy who I believe got the brunt of it. It was very difficult because I wanted to please all three masters: the studio, the director and the movie. And it was my job to balance that … to not lose sight of that.” He added that James Cameron “comes up with the great dreams, and it’s my job to make those dreams come true.”
