Actor John Aprea (The Godfather Part II, Another World) died on August 5. He was 83. Aprea was an L.A. actor/bartender when Francis Ford Coppola spotted him and auditioned him for the role of Michael Corleone in The Godfather. Al Pacino got that, but he was cast as Salvatore Tessio in Part II. Between 1968 (Bullitt) and 2023 (The Bay), Aprea appeared in about 100 movies and TV shows: That Girl, The Stepford Wives, Full House (as Jesse and Pamela’s father), The Montefuscos, Matt Houston (as Lt. Vince Novelli, in 24 episodes), Falcon Crest, Melrose Place, and Another World (as three characters over more than 400 episodes). When Aprea played the younger version of Abe Vigoda’s Godfather character, the young actor remembered the older one advising, “I don’t know what I did. Just have a good time, kid.”
