Singer Inger Lorre, of the Nymphs, died of cancer on Oct. 16. She was 61. The Nymphs were variously described as punk, goth, glam, and grunge; they formed in New Jersey in the ’80s, were signed by Geffen Records, and performed the Lorre-written “The Highway” in the film Bad Influence. Lorre was kicked out of the group because of her drug and alcohol use (and peeing on the desk of a Geffen executive). She completed rehab, and went on to perform and record both as a solo artist and with other groups. Her most recent album, Gloryland, was released through the adorably named Kitten Robot Records. Lorre recently said that “It was really the fans that [sic] brought me back, because I’m still afraid of the industry, the corporate machine. But you’ve got to keep it positive, because the world is so freakin’ dark right now. I felt like I needed to help heal some of the sadness. I don’t know if the world has ever been in a darker place. But there’s something about it where I just needed to hold on to hope.”
