Songwriter and lyricist George Goehring, 91, died on August 15 at a Florida assisted-living center. Goehring was best-known for the 1959 hit “Lipstick On Your Collar,” first sung by Connie Francis (the then-unknown songwriter turned up at Francis’s home and insisted on playing it on her piano). He also composed the score to the show Lady Audley’s Secret (based on the hit 1862 novel), which was performed at Baltimore’s Center Stage; his other pop songs included “Half Heaven – Half Heartache” and “Suppose.” Goehring ran an antiques store in Waverly, MD, and recently performed in a one-man show, My Life in the Brill Building. His friend, Baltimore magazine editor Alan Sea, said, “George had the sunniest personality. He had the sweetest disposition. George also played an important role in the gay musical community of the 1980s, when he was the piano accompanist for the Baltimore Men’s Chorus.”
