Broadway actor Gavin Creel, 48, died of cancer in New York on Sept. 30. From 2002 through 2022, Creel appeared in such Broadway shows as Thoroughly Modern Millie, La Cage aux Folles, Hair, The Book of Mormon, Hello, Dolly!, and Into the Woods. He was also seen on TV in two Eloise TV-movies, She Loves Me, and American Horror Stories. He started his career in regional and touring companies, as well as the Off-Broadway shows Spring Awakening and Bat Boy: The Musical. Creel wrote and performed in a one-man show, Walk on Through: Confessions of a Museum Novice, of which he said, “The only thing I can write about is this guy named Gavin Creel, who’s having a bit of a midlife moment and appears to have his shit together but is having a tough time in his life and doesn’t know how to talk about it with anybody. And the Met building becomes an allegory for the world. If I can figure out where I belong in this place, I can get to know myself a little better outside of this place. And that’s what the show is about.”
