Beauty Queen Edna Tepava, who was voted Miss Tahiti (1973) and Miss France (1974), died of cancer on Oct. 6. She was 69. The daughter of a fisherman and a maid, Edna was one of seven children, and the first Polynesian to win the Miss France title. “She was a very beautiful woman, she had a big heart and she loved the people of Tahiti,” said one of her friends. “I was at the Uturoa high school when they announced that she was Miss France. We were very happy to have a Tahitian.” Her niece, Mareva Georges, was voted Miss France in 1991.
