Movie and TV actor David Harris, 75, died of cancer on Oct. 25. Harris was best known for playing Cochise in the 1979 gang film The Warriors; he also appeared in such films as Brubaker, A Soldier’s Story, Fatal Beauty, and Under Cover. Later in his career, Harris segued to TV, popping up in such shows as North & South, Hill Street Blues, the infamous Cop Rock, The Equalizer, ER, and Law & Order. “We didn’t think it would cause any kind of problems, but it certainly did,” Harris said of The Warriors. “There were some fights that broke out in certain theaters but that didn’t happen all across the nation. People who didn’t like the film, or didn’t want to see a film about gangs, gave it a bad rap. It was an interracial gang, we didn’t carry any guns, and most of the critics loved it.”
