Singer and songwriter Dave Loggins, 76, died on July 10 at the inappropriately named Alive Hospice in Nashville. A cousin of Kenny Loggins, Dave is best known for his Grammy-nominated 1974 hit “Please Come to Boston.”In 1984 he had another hit with “Nobody Loves Me Like You Do,” sung with Anne Murray. Loggins also wrote songs for many other (mostly country) artist, such as “Pieces of April,” “Morning Desire,” “You Make Me Want to Make You Mine,” as well as “Augusta,” the theme for the Masters Tournament. Of that song, he said in 2019 that he’d been walking the golf course: “I stopped for a minute, looked up at the pine trees and the wind down there was just different in some regards. I looked over at some dogwoods and, man, I just started writing the song in my head which is what I do when I get inspired. We thought they’d air it just one year. Now it’s been 38 years. Amazing.”
