Dancer, director, and designer Christopher Ciccone, 63, died of cancer on Oct. 4. Best known (frustratingly for him) as Madonna’s estranged kid brother, Ciccone started his career with the Canadian troupe Le Groupe de la Place Royale. When his sister’s career started taking off, he worked as one of her backup dancers. By the early ’90s, he was art director and tour director for her, as well as directing music videos for (among others) Dolly Parton and Tony Bennett. Ciccone is survived by his husband, British actor Ray Thacker. When his tell-all 2008 memoirs were published, Ciccone said, “there are two factions. People who hate me because they think I’ve betrayed their icon. And then the people who hate me because they think I haven’t betrayed her enough. The other day, I was walking through a gay bar and I heard this guy whisper, ‘Traitor!’ It was pretty funny.”
