Actor Charles Cyphers, 85, died in Tucson on August 4. He was best known for his work with director John Carpenter, for whom he appeared in Assault on Precinct 13, The Fog, Escape From New York, and the Halloween series (as Sheriff Leigh Brackett). Cyphers also appeared on TV in Barnaby Jones, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, Charlie’s Angels, Roots, Starsky and Hutch, and Hill Street Blues, and on the big screen in Coming Home, The Onion Field, Honkytonk Man, and Major League. He was most recently seen in the 2021 Halloween reboot Halloween Kills, reprising his old role.
