West Side Story dancer Carole D’Andrea, 87, died on March 17. D’Andrea played slinky Velma, the girlfriend of Riff (Mickey Calin onstage and Russ Tamblyn in the film) in both the Broadway and movie versions of the story. West Side Story is her only credit on IBDb, and she has none at all on the Off-Broadway site. Playbill tells us that “D'Andrea's career encompassed various performances that showcased her talent and dedication to the arts,” which is mystifyingly vague. D’Andrea settled down in L.A., and ran acting and singing classes. She was married to actor Robert Morse from 1961-81; their daughters Andrea Doven, Hilary Morse, and Robin Morse, are all actresses.
