Popular Brazilian singer and guitarist Ayres Sasaki, 35, was electrocuted during a performance at the Solar Hotel in Salinópolis on July 13. A soaking-wet fan jumped onstage and gave Sasaki a hug, which shorted out a cable (it is frustratingly unclear why the fan was wet, or what the fate of Wet Fan was). Sasaki was known as known as the “king of encores,” once playing for a continuous 12 hours. Music writer Will Simpson wrote that “Sasaki was well-regarded in Brazil’s rock community. Something of a road warrior, he was known for his marathon performances.” Singer Adriano Freitas called him “A super charismatic guy, his talent was incredible. He was the best singer and guitarist in Belem.” Sasaki was also an architect and urban planner.
