YouTuber Andrew Cross, 36, was taken off life support on March 5, a month after suffering brain injuries in a car accident. Known to his many followers as Desert Drifter, Cross was rear-ended while at a stop light by a driver who has been charged with “vehicular homicide, reckless driving, careless driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.” Cross, who also worked as a wilderness guide and youth pastor, told podcaster Scott Wurtzbacher, “There have been times in the last few years when I’ve been sitting in the middle of nowhere thinking, ‘what the hell am I doing out here? How did I wind up here?’ There would be self-doubt, or ‘am I doing the right thing? Am I going in the right direction?’ But within the last year, I’ve started to see those threads coming together, the bigger picture come into view. But there’s still discovery to be had, and self-doubt to be faced.”
