Golden Age Mexican film star Alma Rosa Aguirre, 95, died on Jan. 27 at an actors’ nursing home. Aguirre came from a wealthy family, but during WWII they had to make do, moving to Mexico City to find work. Aguirre started her film career in 1946 and through the 1950s and ’60s became a major star. She excelled in both drama and comedy, and costarred with many of Mexico’s greats. She retired in 1960 to raise her daughter and live a normal life (though she made a brief comeback in the early ’70s). Aguirre rarely gave interviews, but was recently quoted as saying, "I will leave happy because I have experienced many beautiful things." She is survived by her younger sister, actress Elsa Aguirre.
