Comedy writer and actor Allan Blye, 87, died on Oct. 4. Blye appeared as “Captain Blye” on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood from 1961-65; his most notable job was as head writer and producer for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Blye was producer of 30-some TV shows, most of them sitcoms or celeb variety hours (including the hilariously awful The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show), and he wrote numerous show of the same ilk. Besides the Smothers, Blye’s best work was probably writing and producing Elvis’ “sexy black leather” ’68 Comeback Special.
